Voted # 1 Haunted House on Long Island - News 12 The Gateway Playhouse of Horrors was horrible– in a good way if you like Haunted Houses! I was tricked into going in and so I screamed my head off the entire time. At one point I was crying. I could not wait for it to be over– my heart was racing so I ran through and it took 20 minutes ! It was so, so scary. I was threatening Gateway’s Paul Allan that unless he told me what was around the corner, I wouldn’t air the footage! My brave intern said it was the scariest and most unique Haunted House she has ever been to. They have a ton of pro actors with amazing make-up and costumes. They tell a really good ghost story and then you are stuck in it. I was so freaked out I can’t stop thinking about it! It was just really really creepy. For years I’ve heard stories about real ghosts at Gateway Playhouse — so to think that it may really be haunted makes it so much creepier! Happy Halloween! Elisa DiStefano, News 12 |

Newsday's Explore TV came out and taped a segment last Sunday. It is difficult to capture the overall theatrical impact with a night vision camera, but you'll get the idea... After our first weekend of operation - Everyone is raving!
In terms of how scary it was, it depends on the type of person you are - I find it all to be entertaining, rarely do they get me to jump etc, so I liked it just because of how well it was done. My sister and my fiance were screaming the whole way through though.
It's not just the "boo!" parts that were good, but the unique scenes of grotesque murder, twisted mad scientists, etc, they just did a really good job. On top of that the price was better than many others and there was absolutely no line, although maybe we were just lucky.
Overall the whole thing was very impressive, especially in comparison to the other hyped up boring ones I've been to over the past few years. |
Things that go bump in the night scare you? Maybe a chop, chop, chopping sound, or a window opening in the shadow of moonlight. That’s just the beginning, my friends. If you dare to come, Gateway’s Estate, with Civil War era buildings, provides the backdrop for a walk thru trip that begins in a dilapidated barn. As the rafters loom with maybe a bat or two or three…… the tale is told of a horrifying murderer and victim who still haunt the premises. When and if you are free to leave, you may agree that spirits never die. It may not be your choice to stay or run screaming into the night, traveling with trepidation, heart beating fast, out into the eerie wooded paths and in Creatures strange and beautiful will |
