LOCAL AUDITIONS FOR KIDS AND ADULTS
A CHRISTMAS CAROL
Have taken place. Thanks to all who auditioned. We had a large turn out, over 120 local youngsters and a handful of local community performers. Unfortunately we were looking for very specific things at this call, to supplement our already hired professional ensemble from Manhattan. We were able to cast 17 Long Island children and teens in this production.
There was a bit of confusion for a small number of kids who auditioned this time. Our audition requirements were confusing to those who do not audition regularly. In our productions, because we have limited dressing room space and like to use the kids in our productions in as many scenes and numbers as we can, we hope to cast kids who are multi talented- acting, singing and sometimes, dancing. If you are planning on auditioning for our professional productions in the future, you will most likely be asked to sing or dance, of you have one of those strengths, before you would be given something to read.
We asked in our audition notices, for strong character types to read first. A strong character type is almost never a child. A strong character type normally refers to an older person, who would be cast in character roles, in other words, not ingenue, or leading man or woman. If you look up the definition of a "character actor or actress" you will learn more about this.
There were many talented kids who auditioned for us, and not enough roles or spots to go around. If you enjoy performing, hang in there and see you next time!
