A Letter From The Producer
Thank you for joining us this season
We hope you enjoyed your time with us this summer as much as we enjoyed bringing you the top-quality musical theatre you’ve come to expect here at Gateway. This summer has certainly been a journey for us, creating—from the ground up—six brand-new designs for six spectacular productions, each of them pushing the envelope technically, setting a new standard for years to come.
With our current production of Urinetown, we are again pushing the envelope by bringing cutting edge New York Theatre to our patrons. In 1979, my parents, Ruth and Stan, produced the stage version of The Rocky Horror Show here after seeing the show in London’s West End—before it was even brought to Broadway. Then, as now, we realize the importance of pioneering new and unconventional works. Groundbreaking when it first appeared at the New York Fringe Festival in 1999, Urinetown has been surprising and dazzling audiences with its signature wit, style, and rich music ever since. This three-time Tony-winner irreverently pokes fun at a range of classic musical theatre shows, many of which we know you’ll recognize.
As the fall approaches, we have begun planning our December Holiday Presentations. We are proud to announce that this year we are bringing you Broadway’s spectacular A Christmas Carol, originally produced by Radio City Entertainment at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden. This lavish musical production by the composer of Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin is sure to light up everyone’s holiday season. We hope you’ll join us in ringing in the New Year with Holiday Hop, featuring the Elsbeary Hobbs Drifters, the Cornell Gunter Coasters, and the Marvelettes, and a party that includes a compliment of champagne and hors d’oeuvres at the beautiful Patchogue Theatre. Also in this playbill is our 2007 Season Survey—your chance to tell us what shows you would like to see next year. Please take a moment to give us your input.
We are grateful for the many wonderful and heartfelt comments we have received this year. Thank you so much for your continued support for our endeavors. As usua, we are committed to bringing you the best musical theatre you have ever seen on Long Island—and will remain so for seasons to come.
